120V or 240V woodworking machines: what the makers list

Makers list benchtop machines such as the DEWALT DW735X planer at 120V, while Powermatic lists its 15HH and 209HH planers and PM1500 band saw at 230V. Some machines, such as the Powermatic 54HH jointer and RIKON 10-1414 band saw, are listed 115/230V, and the 54HH manual states it is pre-wired 115V.

What the manuals say about connecting 230V machines

Powermatic's 15HH manual states that a power plug is not provided with the 15S or 15HH planers, and that owners may either connect a 230 volt plug or hard-wire the machine to the electrical panel provided there is a disconnect near the machine. (Powermatic (JPW Industries))

Can a 120V woodworking machine be switched to 240V?

Only where the maker says so. Powermatic's 54HH jointer manual says the motor is pre-wired 115V and describes reconnecting its leads for 230V operation, with the supplied plug replaced by a 230V plug.
